In the spirit of this year’s Hullabaloo, we’re exploring a bit of New York in our own backyard with #NYCinYYC, Calgary’s only New York-inspired Cocktail Week in support of Hullabaloo, a fundraiser for Honens.

From 25 May to 6 June, enjoy locally crafted cocktails made by four of Calgary’s most innovative cocktail hotspots—Candela, Raw Bar by Duncan Ly, Chefbar and Cannibale—as we get ready for June’s biggest party—Hullabaloo!

Rally your friends, have a date night and try one of these innovative concoctions, or come and have a drink with the people behind Hullabaloo on the following dates:

The Bronx, named after the northernmost of New York City’s five boroughs, was ranked third in “The World’s 10 Most Famous Cocktails in 1934”. Candela localizes this famed cocktail with a touch of Saskatoon berry.

Take a sip of the Saskatoon Bronx, created by Darren Fabian with gin, Amaro, saskatoon berry preserve, simple syrup, blood orange puree, lemon juice and cherry bitters.

It’s a dog eat dog world on Wallstreet where this drink takes it’s inspiration.

Try the The White Dog of Wallstreet by Christina Mah made with White Dog moonshine, Calvados Big Apple syrup, Dry Vermouth and Aromatic Bitters.

The feature cocktail at Cannibale is specific to the neighbourhood of Bushwick, located east of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. The etymology of Bushwick is Old Dutch. ‘Boswicjk’ means ‘little town in the woods’. Once a neighbourhood stuck in a dreadful cycle of crime and poverty, it is now a vibrant hipster paradise, with Vogue magazine declaring it the seventh coolest neighbourhood in the world.

The Bushwick Manhattan was created by Dustin Olson and is made with Bols Genever, Cynar, Dolin Blanc, St-Germain Elderflower liqueur and Regan’s Orange Bitters.

At Chefbar, Brice Peressini is inspired by bourbon being the American spirit and the great Italian influence in NYC. Taste the Boroughetto Sour made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Disaronno Amaretto, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white for a trip to Little Italy here in YYC.
